I am a not so simple human being, living a not so simple life, doing a not so simple work.
I am a Flash – ActionScript programmer. I work at Jumpeye Creative Media and right now I earn my existence by creating Flash content (especially Flash components for jumpeyecomponents.com) and handling customer support for the company. At Jumpeye, when I’m not writing code or writing mails for our clients, I’m testing our work and try to make sure everything works as planned. In my spare time I spend enough hours on the computer (off course, coding in ActionScript, reading ActionScript related stuff, or just playing games) but I do like to get away from it all and go out with my friends or take a trip into the great outdoors (it’s healthy, you know ?).
My experience as a programmer starts way back in my high school years when I was trying to do “great things” in Turbo Pascal. Remember it ? Then, after getting admitted into university, I started working in C/C++, like everybody else in those days. In my third year I met Delphi :D. I got curious about it and started using it more and more. I really liked creating desktop applications in Delphi. It was quite easy, compared to other languages (like Visual C++), and there are a lot of components to help you with what you’re trying to accomplish (if not, just google it).
In my fourth year, in 2003, I started working in a logistics company, as a programmer. Besides programming I had to take care of the local computer network and all of the company’s computers. A year later I got my diploma in Computer Sciences and started a Master in Internet and Multimedia Technologies. In 2005 I left the company I was working for (less and less programming, more and more “boss assistant” work – my respect to all the assistant managers out there, but this is not the job for me). Right after that, I joined the Jumpeye team, where I started off as a Delphi programmer and continued creating desktop applications. But in the mean time I started to get acquainted with Flash during my courses at university and Flash started to intrigue me.
In 2006 I had the chance to work and study for 3 months in a university in France where I had a project on semantic web. I was using Flash 8 to accomplish my tasks and loved every minute of it. After I got back from France I was still working in Delphi at Jumpeye, but in late 2006 I left Delphi for my new love, Flash. I never thought that working with Flash and ActionScript could be so rewarding. I started working on some small Flash projects and created my first component, ThumbnailList. Then, in 2007, JumpeyeComponents was created, so me and my colleagues really got into creating Flash components. We published more and more components so we started to attract more and more clients. We got to a point where our customer support service was quite appreciated and we couldn’t leave it uncovered when our support colleague went on vacation. So, I started doing customer support too. My main occupation is still programming but I help in with customer support every now and then. Besides these, I also create the examples and post the items for our knowledge base.
